How it works

How to get in, and what to know once you're here. You apply on our Discord. The form takes about a minute. Replies usually come within a day, often within the hour. The rest is below, for whenever you need it.

Joining

Andesite is whitelisted. There's a short application on our Discord, mostly there to make sure this is the kind of server you're looking for. We read every one ourselves.

What you need

  • To be 18 or over.
  • Minecraft: Java Edition 26.2, on an official account.
  • A Discord account.

The steps

  1. Join our Discord and press Apply to join in #apply.
  2. Fill in the short form. It takes about a minute.
  3. When you send it, the bot opens a private thread with your answers in it and shows you the link straight away. It messages you the link too. Nobody else sees your application.
  4. We reply in your thread, usually within a day. Once you're accepted, the bot whitelists you straight away.
  5. Add the server in Minecraft: play.andesitesmp.com. The live map is here on the site.

The questions

The form has five boxes.

  1. Your Minecraft: Java Edition username
  2. Are you 18 or over?
  3. Where you are, and when you usually play
  4. What you enjoy, and whether you've played on a server like this before
  5. How you found us

There's no separate question about the rules. By applying, you confirm you've read them and agree to them.

Friend already plays? Say so when we ask how you found us. It's one account per person, so they apply too.

If it isn't a fit, you'll get a polite reply in your private thread.

Your first hour

Once you're accepted, add play.andesitesmp.com to your server list. This is roughly how your first hour goes.

  1. You arrive at spawn. There's no building and no PvP there.
  2. The cannon fires you somewhere random, 500 to 9,500 blocks out, probably alone and possibly at night. If you don't like the spot, /spawn and fire again (there's a 30-second cooldown).
  3. Set a home first with /sethome. You get three.
  4. Claim before you build. Use a golden shovel on two opposite corners. The small automatic claim around your first chest is only a start, so make a proper one early.
  5. If you die, /back takes you to the spot. Be quick, because anyone can pick up what you dropped.
  6. Want neighbours? Ask in the Discord, and /tpa gets you there.

Claims

Claims are how you keep what you build. They're free, and the more you play, the more land you can claim.

  • You start with 2,000 claim blocks, enough for roughly 44 by 44.
  • You earn 100 more for every hour you play, up to 80,000.
  • To claim land, use a golden shovel on two opposite corners.
  • /trust lets friends build in your claim.
  • Inside a claim, nobody else can break your blocks, open your chests or hurt you.
  • Block changes are logged, so if something does go wrong, it can be put back.

While you're away

Your base stays where you left it, and your claim stays yours, however long you're away. Claims don't expire.

Getting around

Nobody builds at spawn, so everyone's home is some way out. This is how you get there and back.

Leaving spawn

Spawn reaches 400 blocks out. You leave it by cannon, which fires you somewhere random 500 to 9,500 blocks away. Fire it as often as you like, with a 30-second cooldown between launches.

Homes

/sethome sets a home and /home takes you back to it. You get three.

Teleports

/tpa
Asks to teleport to another player.
/tpaccept
Accepts a request.
/tpdeny
Turns one down.
/back
Takes you back to where you were, including where you died.
/spawn
Takes you back to spawn.

Teleports have a five-second warm-up. Moving or taking damage cancels it.

/home, /spawn and /tpa are blocked for 15 seconds after a fight.

PvP

There's PvP, within limits.

  • PvP is off inside every claim and across the whole of spawn, 400 blocks out. Everywhere else, it's on.
  • New players are protected until they pick something up.
  • Logging out mid-fight kills you.
  • /home, /spawn and /tpa are blocked for 15 seconds after a fight.
  • Anyone can pick up what you drop when you die.

The PvP rules themselves are on the Rules page.

Optional mods

You don't need any mods to play. These three are free, optional and supported by the server.

Simple Voice Chat
Proximity voice chat. Press V for its settings. Caps Lock is push-to-talk by default. Voice is never recorded.
Distant Horizons
Draws far-off terrain, well beyond Minecraft's normal render distance.
Voxy
Another mod that draws far-off terrain.

The set of versions that work together changes every few weeks, so it's pinned in the Discord rather than listed here.
